The British Cabinet Office is warning businesses in England that the UK may not be able to handle the increased demand for Internet services during the 2012 London Olympics. Businesses have reportedly been told to expect rationing of Internet access during peak periods.
A government document called Preparing Your Business for the Games raises the possibility “that internet services may be slower during the Games or, in very severe cases, there may be dropouts due to an increased number of people accessing the internet.”The concerns are driven by the added demand posed by as many as 850,000 athletes, officials, media, and spectators expected for the Games, as well as the increasing popularity of video streaming and other data-heavy web uses.
