HGTV goes print, will extend brand with magazine (update)

HGTV has decided to launch a new magazine with Hearst Corporation for the fall, based on HGTV's cable channel. The first issue will hit newsstands October 2011 and the second issue will be on stands January 2012. HGTV will then decide whether there is a strong enough interest in the publication to support a monthly publication of the magazine.

If it does as expected, the TV-show focused magazine could be in full production in 2012. The news snippet notes that previous collaborations between TV shows and Hearst have been successes, including notably the "Food Network Magazine" and Oprah's "O." Advertisers are likely to like the new magazine for its more streamlined type of reader. The first issue is scheduled to release in October.

The way media outlets are run is ever-changing. They must now not only keep up with the changing times in their specific field but also integrate themselves into other markets, such as magazine publications, as another way to promote their original content to the public.
