TV Universe Shrinks

For the first time since they've been keeping track, Nielsen is reporting that the U.S. TV Universe is getting smaller.  They're reporting that the percentage of homes with TV sets has declined from 98.9% to 96.7%.

Nielsen suggested that the decline is the result of three main forces - the shift from analog to digital, the recession, and the increased availability of "multiplatform viewing options."  They also said that a "small subset of younger, urban consumers seem to be going without paid TV subscriptions" for now, and consumers are viewing more video across all platforms, "rather than replacing one medium with another"
